The 1948 Lincoln Brief Timeline!-

1991- The prior owner buys the 1948 Lincoln at the L.A. County fairgrounds from the two guys that bought it from my grandpa.

1990's-2000's- The prior owner does not drive the car that much and it sits mostly and he attempts to sell it in the mid 1990's and throughout the early 2000's

2005/2006- I find pics. of the 1948 after my grandpa died and then I found an old pinkslip with the vin#

2007- I begin the long search through DMV and I find it in May and begin a dealing with the owner, and I look at it in June, and in July I bought it back. A few repairs follow, and it goe into the L.A. County fair to be on display and in the parade on the last weekend of the fair

2008- Driving and more Driving! And the adventure continues!

Nice looking car. I don't think that I ever saw a Lincoln without fender skirts. I take it that they were optional.

HA! HA! HA! Probably, I am going to post the pics. of my other cars in a few minutes! and this is the orig. color, the paint is very old (it still looks good!) There are a few spots here and there, but, it is a 10 footer, hey the paint is probably about 50yrs. old, the dash is the same color as the car, so, it is the orig. color (maybe even orig. paint?) No, unfortunatly, the 12 was taken out before my grandpa bought it in '75 but, it is running on a period correct V-8 with everything else being orig. To bad about the 12, but the parts for the V-8 are dirt cheap! and it runs very well! Love your Lincoln! Lincolns are my favorite! I own 2!

Wes
What kind of V8 have you got in there?
My parents bought a 1942 coupe in 1972 and it looked strikingly similar to your car.: fender skirts had been removed and a Cadillac V8 had been installed. It was a GREAT driving car, with a LOT of performance (Andy Granitelli did the installation). When I turned 16, I got my first (of many) speeding ticket in the car.
Alas, when the car was repainted in the mid 1980s, the V8 got taken out and the V12 put in. Not nearly as fun to drive. My mother still owns the car, and it consistently scores 99 points in the CCCA. We discovered that the original owner was William Wrigley, whose wife was chauffeur-driven in it.
Like you, I'm hoping to have this car parked in my garage some day, but I hope that day doesn't come too soon.

Well, mine has a Mercury V-8 from 1948, with overdrive, and it runs great! I enjoy driving it. I actually prefer the ones w/o the fender skirt, someday when I get some new whitewalls on there, it will look great. Also, it makes changing the tire easier! Those white wall tires that appear in the pics. from 1975 and up, are the same ones that were still on the car when I got it! I don't have the cash for the wide white walls so, I got the thin ones, they look good too! Someday, I hope to have mine in a garage, now, it is back in my grandma's driveway, where it was all those years! The paint is old, and I wax it every few months, to keep it to where water beads up on it and to get rid of the oxidation. At least your mom's Linc. is still in your family! I had to go buy my grandpa's back!!

I did a search through DMV and they did not have the plate on file, but, how many white 1958 Imperial Lebarons can ther be? Especially with that Louvered rear window, from CA, I have some more pics. of it from about 10 years before that I just found and it looked like brand new!

Supposed-to-be-there or not, for a car that's a driver, forget the fender skirts. I've never seen a Conti without them, and I like the look...much cleaner, more modern.

Beautiful car, Wes, and good to know you're keeping it on the road.

I'll be the contrarian, get some skirts on that car! H series Lincolns NEED them.... the V12 gods will drop all kinds of trouble upon those who run without them! wink They aren't supposed to look "modern" they are 60+ year old luxo-barges. Congrats on that car Wes, it's a real beauty.
