I was wondering, provided you could actually get the trans attached, if a '50 Special 3 speed could handle a '54 322 as far as torque and power? Maybe 250 horses tops.

Well I can tell you I put a 322 in my 54 Ford (back when I was stupid) using the ford trans. The ford trans was designed to handle 15 more HP and a bit more torque than the Buick trans is. I blew up 5 trannys before I sold the car (with a blown trans). I could clean every tooth off the input shaft just by stomping on it in first gear. If you are looking at 250 HP you should be also looking at a Century or Super trans. The special trannys were not designed for that much juice.......Bob

A '54 with a nailhead. Cool. My first car was a '54 Ford. Bought it from a junk yard for $15. It ran for about 10 minutes, then sat in a field next to a '53 Convertible that we bought from the same yard for $30.
