There were 5,176 Deluxe Coupes and 498 Custom coupes produced. Which do you have??
As far as how many are left perhaps the National DeSoto Club could help you out.

There was no way to tell the differance between a custom or deluxe from the exterior, the only way was through the interior trim , the custom interior had darker upholstery than the deluxe.

The DeSoto Plymouth story is where I got my numbers from...it seems to be accurate for US production. The way to tell a Deluxe from a custom was that the front mat was carpet and not rubber. The O/D tranny could be on either model. I have a 1939 Deluxe 2 dr sedan with the O/D

Not sure how many are still left but this one was recently sold at the Binder Desoto collection auction in Spencer Iowa last year.

Canadian-built 1939 DeSotos were all sold as DeLuxe (S6) models -
2-passenger Coupe : $1,151, #3,105
4-passenger Coupe : $1,228, #3,140
2-door sedan : $1,239, #3,185
4-door sedan : $1,294, #3,230
4-door LWB sedan : $1,595, #3,510
Imported models included -
5-passenger (Hayes) Club Coupe : $1,500, #3,215
4-door limouine (7-pass) : $1,716, #3,554

or DeLuxe Special (upgraded interior appointments) -
4-door sedan : $1,371, #3,235

As to how many of each were built, noone appears to know. Production figures given for Chrysler products over the years, such as in "The Plymouth and DeSoto Story", are for American and Canadian production combined.

1939 production -
DeLuxe -
2-passenger coupe : 5,176
4-passenger coupe : 2,124
2-door sedan : 7,472
4-door sedan : 31,513
4-door LWB sedan : 425
Chassis : 154
TOTAL - 48,864

Custom -
2-passenger coupe : 498
4-passenger coupe : 287
2-door sedan : 424
4-door sedan : 5,993
5-passenger (Hayes) Club Coupe : 264
4-door LWB sedan : 30
4-door LWB limousine : 84
TOTAL - 7,580

Taxi -
4-door LWB sedab : 1,250
TOTAL - 1,250

1939 TOTAL - 55,694

Detroit - 5634001-5687134 - 53,134
(Detroit : DeLuxe - 45,554; Custom - 7,580)
Detroit (taxi) - 1,250
Windsor - 9668606-9669922 : 1,317

Approximate Canadian production would be -
2-passenger coupe : 140
4-passenger coupe : 57
2-door sedan : 202 *
4-door sedan : 907
4-door LWB sedan : 11
TOTAL - 1,317
* - Includes DeLuxe Special sedan

On Canadian models the firewall under the hood has a tag -

Model
Body No
Paint Code
Trim Code

What appears on your tag?

I am trying to compile a list of paint colours Chrysler of Canada used prior to 1949. I would appreciate it if anyone who owns a Canadian-built Chrysler product built before 1949 could let me know what is on their tag and what the original colour of the car is (or a photo of same).

James,

I think this is the car that my Dad has and he was also looking for any others a few years back. I talked to him and he asked me to give you his email and to contact him.
