I'm working on a '41 Packard Clipper this winter. This is the second '41 Clipper I've owned. The first one was just too big of a job for me, so after I sold it a few years ago I began to search for another "less ambitious" project. I found this wonderful car on the Packard Club web site and only had to travel 50 miles to bring her home. The '41 was the first Clipper and was a dramatic styling change--a real milestone car. These cars have been under valued, I feel, and a real bargain for us "regular" collectors. My wife and I love to tour throughout the summer months and needed a pre-war car with a comfortable ride (her health issues demand it) and this car was the perfect choice. I feel these wonderful old cars need to be driven and I hate sitting around at car shows, so my cars are drivers. I'm not doing a frame-off restoration, but I'm going through everything mechanical and redoing most of the interior and giving it new paint. Most of the chrome is "driver quality", but I'm having some key pieces redone. Radial tires will improve the driving quality, but everything else will be bone stock. I'm still working a day job so I try to work at night when time permits. Wish me luck--I want to take her on her maiden voyage in June! No, the hobby is NOT dead! My local car club hosts an annual cruise (pre-war stock cars) and have to turn away cars after our 110 car limit is reached.
