Hello, The first car I drove was my parents car a 1954 Buick special 2 dr HT. Well, my question is; I have a dealers model (promo)of a 54 Buick Skylark convertible (not in perfect condition so don't drop you beer) and a 54 Buick Roadmaster 4 dr promo. I want to know the lengths of the 2dr special and the 4dr roadmaster and also the skylark. I plan to cut off the back of the skylark (don't faint now) and the back and roof of the Roadmaster and mate the two together to make a 2 dr special. Of coarse I will fill the front hole of the four in the front fenders, they may not be in perfect position but I think they wil be close. Also the lengths may only be inches on the real ones so won't even be a problem with the model. If anyone can help me with the measurements (lengths)of the three cars. 2dr Skylark, 2dr Special (48D), 4dr Roadmaster.
Any help will be appericiated.
The first car I owned was a 1939 Buick 4dr Special with 50,000 miles and in great condition and I paid a fellow $35 for it. Those were great days to buy old cars. However, I had to go in with a friend to come up with the $35. Ha. I also bought a 41 Plymouth 4dr in great condition for $35 and the same friend bought a 54 Buick Special 2dr V-8 3 speed stick shift with primer paint with new brakes and ran great for $50. Anyone sick yet? I bought a 39 Willys coup 4 banger for $75. enough, enough. I know, I wish I had them now.
All the best to all. Jim

Don't think it's gonna work but here's the measurements. The Roadmaster is 216 inches long and 80 inches wide. The Special and Skylark are 206 inches long and 76 inches wide. Good luck and send pictures.

Hi Jim,
I also think there will be issues with your plan. Unless the models aren't to scale, the Roadmaster would be wider. Also either half of the Skylark (front or back) really couldn't be confused with a Special. I'd be inclined to search for a model of a Special on ebay unless you really want to cut up the models. Good luck either way.

Hello everyone.
Well, If there is a kit of a 1954 Buick Special in 1/24 or 1/25 or a promo I want it. I would rather build a kit from a 54 Special.
The two models I have are promo models and I put the tires to each other and they match as does the length and even the width. I saw that the hood ornaments are different and no holes on the side of the Skylark, neither should be a big problem.
Many thanks for all your advise it is very much appreciated. I will hold off on the conversion till I have more information.
Thanks Jim

Well fellas, I just found a 1/25 scale resin 1954 Buick 2dr Roadmaster hardtop. This will involve much less work to make it into a Special. I guess the three promos I have will be up for sale if all goes well with the resin kit. I got a second 54 Roadmaster 4 dr.
Input is still welcome as to the differences of the Roadmaster and Special. I saw three right off. The rear roof line, four holes in the fender. and no door post.
You know, after all this I may look for a real 1954 Buick special.
Thanks again, Jim

LOL, Ya, I have been looking at some on line and they sure bring back the memories. You know I always thought that Buick was quicker when it was freshly washed. Also the base all the way on the Am radio was cool to.
Thanks again, Jim

If you decide that the roadmaster promo will go for sale, please let us know. I'm thinking there could be a very good bidding war between everyone with a 54 roadie on this site.
