Here's an auto part that can be enjoyable to identify because we may have sat behind one of these dashboards as a child. It doesn't ring any bells with me though. I found this gauge cluster in an old family storage building that was being cleaned out in west Texas. Does anyone recognize it? It's about 9.5" wide by 5" tall. I see nothing like a "GM", Chrysler" or "Ford" marked on it anywhere. The base of the speedometer is however marked as a Stewart-Warner and there are some "painted" numbers on the back of the speedometer that appear to be "579VQ11".

Now how did that slip my mind? The gauge cluster, found in an old storage building that belonged to my late father-in-law, undoubtedly belonged to him. I know for a fact he owned numerous International winch and 5th wheel trucks during his lifetime. In fact he had three house-moving winch trucks when he passed away a few years ago, a 1937, a 1947 and a 1957. Right now I'm looking out the window at an International hood, sides and grill he had taken off of one of his trucks, probably a 1930s model.

You've probably guessed it right. And yes it does indeed look like an International truck cluster. I worked for my father-in-law for several summers and drove several of his Internationals. At least your's is a good enough guess as to where to continue to research.

Thanks.

Ron

Mymolalla, you are the winner! Apparently it fits International trucks from 1938 to 1948. No wonder it looked familair to me. Here's one on eBay..

the 579V number indicates the speedo is for a 1942-49 International truck...... model unknown.
