Water, Water...especially in My Reatta!

OK, I will admit up front I haven't driven my Reatta in well over a year! I pay insurance because I am stupid and just have a few things that NEED to be done (overhaul rear brakes) and other cosmetics and such.) HOWEVER, today I detected a strong, humid atmosphere as I have with many of my GM autos...seems GM cars (and others likely) just seem to like to develop leaks and allow Mother Nature to let rain inside. My car is under a 4-ply cover, but remains in my drive outside. Further investigation found a deep puddle (in the floor pan) below both sides carpet. Tomorrow am (Thursday) I will remove both seats and then the carpet to begin to dry the insulation and deodorize the "wet dog" smell cars will develop from standing water.
I have had other cars do this as well. My current Pontiac had a puddle in the back seat floor which the dealer repaired from a small hole the factory allowed which let in rain.
I can tell the source is forward, from the passenger side in front, as it is very wet. This likely allowed much water to enter and then travel to the driver side as well, or the leak may be much wider and across the front below the windshield plenum area, along the fire wall or fron the gutter run-offs on either side between the fenders.
I will attack and then repair, then test and retest before replacing the dry carpet and seats.
Has anyone else experienced any water from rain entering their Reatta? If it was on either side in front of the seats, where did the dealer or you eventually find the water was entering? Did you find a specific location and what was the repair?
Thanks for your info! Will post what I find when I am sure I solved the problem!
If you smell "wet dog" in your car after a heavy rain...check under your carpet! That is, if you are brave enough!

I believe you will find it is the weather strip on the top of the passenger side window, near the intersection of the vent and main windows. This area is a notorious leak source for the Reattas. Check the search function for repair suggestions as this has come up several times before.

Duane, thanks for the idea, but the water I found was in the floor pan UNDER the carpet on both sides, especially on the driver side. I believe the source of entry, not yet having really looked for it, is in the front or along a water run-off or escape path. That much water has to be from a drainage or normally sealed area.

I had the same problem on my 90 Convertible. Water piled up under both seats & carpets were wet to the touch. Everyone has told me that it is the Convertible top. I have not replaced the top yet, so she stays parked in the garage whenever it rains. Let me know what you find.

For a couple of years before I found this discussion forum and Barney Eaton, I had the same problem with my convertible. When it rained, the car was soaked inside. Finally, Barney suggested to have the drainage hoses in the trunk "blown out" and that solved my problem. I have no idea of a way water would be coming from in the front. Any drainage hoses up there? Good luck. I still get some minor water through the weather striping and window but not anywhere near the amount before.

I had this problem with a differnet vehicle & it turned out to be leaky tail lights. My carpet under both drivers & passengers side seats was soaked, along with the carpet in my trunk where the spare tire fit in. Thank goodness it was a lease & they replaced all my carpeting for free. Anyhow, I too have this problem with my Reatta, but I'm pretty sure the water comes in the drivers side window.

Sorry to hear about your leakage prob. Do you have, by chance, the factory sunroof? If so, my manual says there are four (4) drainage hoses running from it (one to each corner which lead, if I remember correctly, to the corresponding corner of the car). Perhaps, since you stated that the passenger side is the most soaked, that drainage hose is clogged or the flow of water otherwise inhibited. I'd suspect that a restriction on the passenger side could also cause the driver's side to clog/leak also. Might be worth checking out if you have that sunroof.
Good Luck to ya'.
