Hello All, What's that black ugly stuff that's in my transmission/rear end?? It's a little tarlike with grit. Heheheh, It looks bad. Does the 600wt oil look like regular trans grease? 90 wt? Thanx in advance for all your help, Arthur

Hello All, I'm guessing I'll put 90wt in for a mile or two then drain, I added some hoping it would loosen the bad stuff up a little. I guess my car is down for the season. I'm going to pull the other rod caps for inspection. The poor old girl's been sitting all her life, I'm gonna put her back to bed and re group. I don't want to be the one that kills her. Thanx for all your help, I'm driving my Crosley 47 roundside pickup, that will have to fill this antique auto addiction for now, Art

For transmissions, some old car manuals recommend Kerosene. I've always used it with very Good results, I just hate the smell, wheew. I'd then replace with a good 600wt oil.

I read somewhere that during Model A era Ford recommended thinning 600wt oil with kerosene for use very in cold weather. That may a good recipe to try for cleaning the rearend. If it were me, I think I would put the rear-end on jack stands and run it through, drain, and run it through, drain again several times before running it on the road.
