Hello All, Well I drove my 27 today, runs great! but problem, I'm losing prime for oil pump. What could cause this? Maybe a leak in my feed line? After running for a while and shutting off, I have to re prime to get pressure. I decked off the pump body and cut a new gasket. This is getting the better of me, hehehh Thanx in advance for any help, Art

Thanx for the reply Chris,I think I fixed it!! I put a hose on it and have a loop halfway between the pump and the pan. It's working like a sink trap, heheh, holding prime. I start it and it takes a few seconds and pressure comes right up..heheh. So far so good, I noticed the pump body is leaking just a bit, I'll take it back off layter. I'll drive it today! You're all welcome for a ride. I'll let you drive Chris....hehhh. Thanx for all your help, Art

I hope to to able to take you up on that offer one day! Did you get the newsletter? Have you thought about bringing your car to our first ever West Coast in Seattle next year?? We hope to have our Chandler back in one piece to bring.
Thats a great trick for the prime problem. Maybe we can use it as a tech tip in a future newsletter. I think I even have a title, "A Prime Soulution". Interested in writing something up? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hi Chris, heheh I will if if fixes the problem! I coated the whole pump body with J-B Weld, it was leaking just a bit from a crack. I've been thinking about this problem a lot. I noticed Cleveland had a check valve in their system, What was the Chandler engineers thinking?? The pump is a lot higher that the oil. Fred said the clearence between the gears and the body must be too much, letting it drain back into the pan.It hold good pressure when running. Fred also said a guy he knows put a check valve in the feed line, I need to talk to that guy. Would you know anything about that? Would it go at the pan connection? It would need a spring strong enough to hold the oil back and weak enough to open when running. I'll explore this further, any help appreciated. All help till now greatly appreciated too, thanx Art

I have not heard of the check valve idea. Let us know what you find out from Fred. I wonder if Spencer knows how Cleveland had their check valve?
