Hello All, having funn with the Chandler but some problems...Oil pressure, comes and goes. Found sludge in the oil pan, maybe gumming up the pump too?
Put straight 30 weight in the thing, should it be non detergent? I see I have a lot to learn. Does the pump just unbolt at the bottom or is it hooked on up top too? When I open the priming hole on the pump it's empty, what keep's the oil in the pump?? ball check valve? The thing drives great!! It's way too nice for me, hehehhh, Thanx in advance, Art

Just talked to a guy today from S.or N.Dakota ? by the name of Jack who called me for help with his 1928-29 Chandler model 65 oil pump ..he says ever time he stops the motor ,he has to prime the oil pump to make it work ,I told him to take it off and try and figure out whats wrong...any one have an idea ? I have his phone number if anyone wants to talk to him ..Spencer Carl , Bishop , Ca.... I have Clevelands cars and the oil pump system is different and is self priming.

Spencer,

Is that Jack Mariktan??
Sounds like either the pick up line is not sealing and allowing the pump to suck air. Has Jack checked the oil lines for leaks.

No, but I talked to him about a year ago. He once borrowed the radiator cap for our car from a previous owner. He had some neat stories to tell.
Have you called him back yet?

Greetings.

I am the new owner of my grandfathers 1922 Royal Dispatch. I look forward to many years with this wonderful car. However, I need a starter and some tips on preparing the car for starting (it has been idle for 10 or more years). I plan on putting some good quality synthetic oil in the cylinders and slowly turning the crank (a little bit) each day until I am sure the engine and rings are losened (if they are even stuck?).

Any other suggestion other than the standard flushing the gas tank and lines, radiator etc.

The car is in very good condition and even has the original leather on the seatbacks.

Any info on where to find the starter? It is a Bosch # 901.

Thanks for all of you help.
