Hello great being here. I just purchased a 1927 Chandler, Cherry, Original Paint/Interior. It only has 9,350 Original miles! Was wanting to drive it on my 50th birthday, May 10. It does'nt run, I took off the vacuum tank and cleaned it out, looked OK. Any pointer's from the PRO'S?? I know about priming the thing. Going to try to start it this weekend, and would appreciate any info. Thanx in advance, Art

Art, Congratulations on your Chandler!! If you are not already a member of the Chandler-Cleveland club you might look us up. One thing to worry about on the Chandler engines is whether or not you have a good prime on the external oil pump. Its mounted on the front right side of the engine. Do you know whether you are getting spark or fuel?? Hope to hear more about you and your low milage car. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hello Chris, Thanx for your help. I'll look into the oil pump prime, did'nt know anything about that! hehehehh, I could've hurt the thing. Whatta 50th birthday that would've been. The car was blocked up in an old bicycle shop, I mean he had the windows and doors covered with 8 inch block, he must've been hiding the thing. Went in in 29 I believe, came out in 60, a guy bought the bicycle shop for the car. I bought it off of a mortiction who's had it for years. Only started once in all these years, I consider myself very lucky! Wow Art what a great find!!!! Do you have much information on Chandler cars? If not I can point you in the right direction. Do you have pictures?? What options does your '27 have? If you know the s/n number I can help identify the model for you.

Thanx Chris for your time. Chandler Sedan Model 31 S/N 22444. I don't really know very much about Chandler, but would like to. I have all kinds of paperwork including Chandler/Cleveland Club newsletters. The second owner was Dennis Wible, he was in the club. I would appreaciate any info. Hoping to get the thing home this weekend, It's just up the road a mile or two. Thanx again Chris, Art

Hi, Spencer here , I have worked on several vacuum tanks and one just last month..take it apart and clean it good ,dirt ,rust etc., check flapper valve at bottom of inside tank ,make sure is free to move and has a clean seat, next look at the two springs at the top ( not broken )then check to see if the two valves are closing good , you can take some polishing compond and put on these valve seats and rotate the the small valve pins with your fingers to clean up the seats ( clean off all compound ),check the float to see if it is in good shape ( no holes ) cut out a new gasket (one) for the top ( no gasket under inter tank )and clean the small side vent hole to the side top of tank, the gasket fit has to be air tight (but not perfect) assemble tank and remount , check suction line to intake manifold and gas line to carburetor ..tank has to be be higher than carb. as it is gravty flow..a small square nut on top is to prime the tank, put about one pint of gas in and check carb to see if is flowing OK ..hook up all pipe fittings to top of tank, should be two with one overflow pipe, one gas line at the bottom to carb.and, open petcock..vacuum line to manifild must be tight to get the suction when engine is running , tank only works every two to five minutes or when the float drops down in the tank..these tanks work well with no problems..Spencer Carl, Bishop ,Ca.
