Peter,
Thank you for providing the list of the 2003 Publications Committee.
After looking at the list, I had a few questions that I wonder if any one can...perhaps from the Publication committee.. can answer.
1. Ive only been an editor for 2 years but each of thise I remember the AACA President on the list as receiving a copy. Should we still send him a copy?
2. I see both Jeanee and Bill Smith are on the committee. Do each get a copy of the newsletters or is one copy sufficient?
These questions may sound inane but I'm still relatively new at this.
Thanks.

Hey Bruce, Don't feel alone... I also had similar questions. In my previous nine years as editor I always mailed six copies for the newsletter contest. One was to Jeanee Smith at HQ, a complimentary copy to our National President and four to the committee members.
After the confusion last year caused by the early release of the mailing list, I think I'll wait a while before accepting this as gospel.

June, I got a message concerning the mailing list sent to the person in charge of the mailing list. I hope he will post or send me a reply to correct what's already listed. I think the new list is incomplete and/or incorrect. Don't hold me to it. Wayne

Folks: This much I can tell you, and that is the correct title for each of the Directors on the list. Sherman Carey is Vice President - Publications Earl D. Beauchamp, Jr. is Executive Vice President David Wunsch is Vice President - Development & Support Central and Western Divisions Peter Brown is Vice President - Development & Support Eastern & Southeastern Divisions David A. Berg is Vice President - Regions I hope this helps you with the addressing. Please remember that I want to receive your newsletters in Sebring, Florida all year. I must travel back and forth each month and I'm trying to take some of the strain off of the wonderful ladies in the Montross Post Office. I can depend of them forwarding my mail, and I cannot count on the post office in Florida. I just may read your newsletter a week or two later than if I was in one place all the time.

Earl, you corrected the titles, but did not help much in answering the question rampant on this thread. Going way back when, the AACA President was on the list. Has this now changed? Also it was decided a long time ago that AACA Headquarters only needs one copy, and that is to Jeanne Smith since she does the filing and provides the copies for the committee meeting in December. Has this changed?

Nothing has changed that I know about. Having worked with the military for 36 years I just don't want to get out of channels. I suggest the folks do what they've always done; one copy to each of the VP's on the committee, one to Headquarters (Jeanne Smith) and a complimentary copy to the President, and do that until or unless you hear differently.

As I recall, last year similar confusion came up and the final explanation was that the Publications Committee is NOT necessarily the same people who judge the Newsletter Contest.

Life is difficult enough. One should avoid attempts to search for something to be confused about. The problem last year was that there was a late change in Board positions - after the Pub committee list was posted. In an attempt to show how responsive we were to the needs of the editors a list as documented at Philadelphia was posted and subsequent changes were made, there was confusion. Also, the copy to the President is a courtesy copy - the President is not on the committee but he may or may not actually meet with the committee during their deliberations at their December meeting. The Publications Committee IS responsible for judging the newsletters and making decisions relative to several Annual Awards. This is all clearly stated in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
DO NOT confuse this with the Internet Committee. The Internet Committee does the website contest. Generally only part of the IC participates in the website reviews, as determined by the Chair of that committee.

Father Ron, I agree that the copy to the President is a courtesy copy and I have always mailed him or her a copy. I also note that Bill Smith was and is listed as a member of the Publications Committee and I have never sent a copy directly to him. This was the reasoning behind my post stating that members of the Publications Committee are not necessarily the ones who are mailed newsletters for the contest.
I appreciate the effort to make the names and addresses available to me and my fellow editors before the formal mailing is made concerning this year's newsletter contest. Sorry if I seem gunshy after last year.
