Hello all, my name is Tim and I am new to this forum. I have a 1955 Packard, a 1965 T-bird and a 1926 Model T roadster project that I am working on. Now I know it may be a sensitive issue for many people but I was just wondering what people thought of building jalopies out of cars that are too far gone to restore? I have seen many vintage pictures of this which has inspired me to build my Model T in that fashion. I would also like to build a Model A jalopy. I think there is something cool about putting some old rusty body back on the road that normally would have just faded away. Either way does anyone know of a coupe or roadster body that is in this type of shape for sale? They come up over in my area from time to time but I figured is someone had an old parts car that they wanted to get rid of that would be suitable for this.
Thanks
Tim

Oh yeah, do it!!! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> There are so many different ways to take a project like this. The most common right now is the "rat rod" or "roach rod" look, but I've always wanted to build an A or T in a late 30's kind of hot rod or dry lakes theme. Highboy, stock height, V8 flathead, etc.

If you're interested in some research, I can direct you to tons of websites regarding this style. Most of them are in a 50's fashion, but there are a few 30's and 40's flavored themes in these sites too.

My Dad recently purchased a '30 sport coupe body that most people would pass up. It's going on an A chassis with steelies and bias-ply tires. The old surface rust of the car will stay the way it is. We're not going to prime it or paint it, the patina is beautiful the way it is!

Here's a few to get you started:

www.rexrods.com
www.ckdeluxe.com
www.vlender.com/a/aaron/roadster
www.ekustom.net
www.vivalasvegas.net/vivalasvegas/photos/
www.hopupmag.com

Each of these sites have tons of links to related sites. You could spend weeks chasing these links.

There's a great hot rodding forum at www.streetrodding.com that has a lot of knowledgable people that contribute. One of the things that I really like about that site is that the political bullshit we see on this site from time to time doesn't exist there. No name calling, no tattle-telling to the moderator, no whining. It's a great site like this one, but without the idiots that taint the posts. If you need more, let me know.

Eric

The best forum discussion I have run into for modified cars is http://www.hotrodders.com. Again not very political and lots of people to help. Although your newer Japanese modifieds are not well appreciated, there is a lot of information about early American iron and even reviews of suppliers.

The HAMB is part of the jalopy journal...its is a great site for such information on traditional hot rods and customs.
