My 28 coupe needs rear brake work and I am looking for advice reguarding drums as my steel drums are shot. I have been told that the reproduction cast iron drums are problematic as they have a tendancy to crack??? Is there more than one manufacturer of the cast drums, or are there certain suppliers that carry a "higher quality" drum???<BR> I Hate blasting through a red light because the car won't stop [img]images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0[/img] <BR> Bill

I've been involved with Model A's for quite some time and have not heard of problems with the new cast iron brake drums. Not to take anything away from this site, I suggest you connect with <A HREF="http://www.AHOOGA,com," TARGET=_blank>www.AHOOGA,com,</A> click on the Message Board and ask your question there. A properly rebuilt original (type) system will offer as much safety as any suggested modified system or so I've been led to believe. Keep in mind, the faster you drive your old Ford, the harder it's going to be to bring it to a safe stop. One final note, there's more cost involved than just the cost of the new cast iron brake drums

I own a '30 Model A Coupe and still have the steel brake drums on the car. However, that being said, when I need new drums, I will absolutely go to the cast iron ones. Every one whom I've spoken with who switched to the cast irons loves them. They've told me that, when properly adjusted, the brakes stop the car as though it had juice brakes. So, don't hesitate. Well....I put the cast iron drums on my car and showed my brother-in-law how well they worked.....bounced him out of the seat and into the widshield....now he knows why I have seatbelts in my A [img]images/icons/grin.gif" border="0[/img] <BR> Bill

I personally think they are worth the money, i also wish they were still available for the AR's. remember that the plasmeter cast irn drums are nearly twice as thick as the original steel drums and are less prone to brake fade and need adjusted less often. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
