307- rocket 350 swap

Hey folks!!! I'm new to the board, wazzzaaaaa
Need some tech help!
I've got an 88 Cutlass T-roof, with a 307. The engine finally let go and spun off a main bearing (due to infrequent oil changes I'm assuming!) Anyways, I found a sweet assed 350 Rocket engine with low kms on it that I'm considering dumping in, but I don't want to have to change everything around. I already know the pump vains in the 2004r in my car are a weak spot, NOT WORRIED!!
How much effort do I have to put up to drop this 350 rocket engine in? Is it fairly straight forward, like a chev 305 to a 350 swap? Will I notice much of a difference with these crappy 2.56 gears? (soon to be 3.73's)
Any input is great,
Thanks Alot
Mark

This swap will be easier than you ever dreamed, because the 307 and 350 are the same basic engine block (260-307-330-350-403 are all considered small blocks in Olds-speak and are all the same externally). All the 307 brackets and auxiliaries will bolt to the 350 in the exact same place, the exact same way. You can even keep yer computer Quadrajet and all computer sensors if you like by using the 307 intake manifold. Use a set of 75-80 350 exhaust manifolds if you can find them. The 307 manifold ports are a bit small.
There may be a little difference in the flexplate/torque converter mounting. Not sure. A lot of 350s have 200-4Rs behind them.
The 350 makes considerably more torque than the 307 (good dependable engines, just puny) so you'll notice a difference even with the 2.56 airplane gears.
Have fun!

chances are I'm gonna have to keep all that computer stuff to pass the smog test here in Ontario.. This 350 Rocket apparently has a "mild" cam, even though it idles like a drag car Any hints or tips on getting this beast past the smogger? I can run it through as a "hot rod" if I put headers and duals on it....
Thanks Alot for the quick response, I'll definitely be using you all for info in the near future when the swap begins.. surely this weekend I hope, nothing like swapping engines early in the morning, thats for sure!
Thanks Again
Mark

Wouldn't the 307 of that vintage have the small intake ports? Yes it would work, but not as well as an A4 intake from an earlier 307.

Hey fellas, how much torque can that thing take. I have an 86 442 that has the 4spd auto. Last owner was the orginal owner whom had a shift kit installed. That seems to be it for the tranny mods though.
Also, the 307 was rebuilt 30,000 ago. I'm not think quality rebuild here. (Rattle rattle)
Just how much power are these engines putting out stock?

well i just swapped a 307 that died in my 86 cutlass supreme brougham. took a 350 rocket out of a 79 delta 88 adn dropped it in place of the 307. we had to swap the exhaust manifold for the newer exhaust, and the flywheel and starter for the other transmission. other than that.....piece of cake. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!

The last of the special built pedal cars will be going up for sale at the RM Auctions in Scottsdale in January. Built by the renown restorer Fran Roxas, this "Dusey" is truly is another work of art.
