Has anyone put these brakes on there car? I bought them but the mounting braket is wrong. Summit sent me the olds/pontiac kit. I went to wilwood online they show a flange that matches mine it is for a 12 bolt chevy. Im pretty sure my rear is original. it is a 10 bolt and does not have c clips. everyone seems to be confused over this rear end. Thanks

A 10 bolt ring gear and no C clips sounds like a type O rear end. I bet it uses 12 bolts on the cover too. Only Oldsmobile folks are familiar with those. Parts are somewhat difficult to come by, but they are out there. www.supercarsunlimited.com has a lot of parts for these.
When you do start using your new brakes, pay close attention to pad wear. Wilwoods have a habit of wearing the pad down and the piston will come out of the cylinder causing you to lose all brakes. I have witnessed it twice in the last two seasons at the strip. One time the racer used his chute to slow the car and make a fast turn off. The other time the racer did not have a chute and crashed the car into the end barrier. The pads had a fair amount of material left.

wow thats pretty bad. Either way i have to return them maybe i will try aerospace. This rear has 10 bolts. It is an 8.5 ring gear is this really a rare rearend? I was told when i had gears put in it that the pinion diameter was the same as a 12 bolt rear and it was strong. Thanks again

Go to the Olds faq at www.442.com to find out more info on the type O rear. While not rare, they are different than everything else which makes upgrades difficult. Since originality is not important, I would go with a type C (chevy)12 bolt, or a made to fit 9 inch housing. Either would be a better choice for extreme use.
[ 05-01-2002: Message edited by: 4-4-2 Dave ]
