1969 Cutlass Part ?

Help - I need a part for my 69 Cutlass or I lose it to an over-sensitive wife nose. There is a plastic cannister on the front of the fuel tank (toward the front of the car) that has two hoses going into it. It is broken and I need a new one. Any ideas? If there is something else that may be causing the gas/oil odor smell.....please do tell. The car does leak fuel whent he tank if fvery full and parked on a downhill slope.

The part you are talking about is called the fuel tank vent surge. It is not available from GM, and it is not reproduced. Your best bet would be salvage yards. Try Ken Reese at Specialty Olds in Florida.

I would think you could adapt a charcoal canastor from almost any car to serve the function of odorless venting. You would need to have a plan as to the location you would put it and then at a yard that lets you walk and look you could find what would fit the best.I'm not at all familar with the car but all later cars had the charcoal canistors to prevent this problem.
Your gas leak could be another problem. If you commonly park facing downhill it may be a good idea not to overfill. A charcoal canister is for fumes not raw gas.
This kind of problem requires resourcefullness and creativity but is not the kind of problem to bring a good car down.

Probably any A-Body canister will work. However the major source of your oder problem is at the tank. Their are at least 5 rubber hoses on the tank and above the rear axle. Replace them all, even if they are just vapor lines because when you park on a hill the fuel goes to the front of the tank and into the vapor lines.
