I usually mail newsletters to committee members for a full calendar year. For 2002, I have 5 copies of the January issue in a file and will do so for the February issue and continue until I get the new list. (I contiue to mail to Jeanne Smith @ HQ)
When I get the new list, I put the issues in a manilla envelope and mail them out. This way, all committee members get a full year of the newsletter to review.
Does anyone know if the committee members will be announced at the Annual Meeting in Philly?

The Publications Committee members will not be known until assignments are made by the new President and approved by the Board during the Reorganization Meeting which takes place immediately following the Annual Business Meeting on Friday. I will contact the new VP Publications to determine if the committee names are available and then try to find someone with a computer to post them here. In any case you should continue to send the Headquarters copy to Jeanne Smith.

I asked a Pulbications committee person the same question last year pertaining to who the newsletters should be mailed to until the new list came out. I was told at the time to mail the newsletters to the same people until the new list came out.

Hey Bruce,
I don't doubt for a minute what you were told, but I question the reasoning. I agree that some of the members from the 2001 Publications Committee will also serve on the 2002 committee but there will probably be at least 2 new members.
If the editors don't receive the new list until sometime in March, the first newsletters the new committee members will receive would be the April issue. Since the various award decisions are made before the end of the year, probably the December issue is not considered in the judging. This deprives the new judges 4 issues to consider.
At the same time, if there are 2 new judges there are also 2 retired judges who will continue to receive newsletters in the new year who will offer no input in the 2002 judging. Doesn't this seem like a waste?
I think that it takes some creativity to produce an interesting newsletter in the "Off-Season" when there are no shows, swap-meets or other activities to report on and ALL newsletter judges should review these issues as well as the issues published in the "Peak-Season".
I guess, until I'm instructed to do otherwise, I'll continue to save my early year issues and mail them to the proper recipients for consideration. (I've been doing it that way for 8 years)
I'm not saying that I'm right and everyone else is wrong, but I will raise the question at the newsletter seminar in Philly.
Any comments, anyone?

Having served on the Publications Committee for 8 or 9 years, I do agree it helps to have each issue. There will be a new President and if he appoints a different VP Publications and VP Regions, then there will be at least three changes for mailing. The idea of holding the first couple of issues until the new committee is identified and then sending the back issues is a very good approach. Just don't hold the one that goes to HQ.
As stated in an earlier reply I will may an effort to be sure the new addresses are on this DF during or immediately after the Annual Meeting. Hey Ron,
Thanks for agreeing that my approach to mailing newsletters to the proper committee members makes sense to you. I also thank you for taking the initiative to post the Publications Committee members A.S.A.P. here on the DF.
I find it very encouraging that more of "the powers that be" are realizing that the DF is an invaluable communication tool for all AACA members. Case in point is the start of online registrations for upcoming events. Now if we could only get more Officers, Directors and representatives of HQ, LRC and the Museum to become regular contributors, we'd really be doing something!
Maybe 2002 will become the year that AACA steps into the age of technology and really utilizes this fascinating resource called the internet!
