Is there any other region chapters that are using an outside web host other than National A.A.C.A. that is reasonably priced? Our club used to be on Geocities but is a pain with all the pop up ads. I completely re-designed our web site and put it on my personal storage but am limited to 5 meg and need about 10 for the club at most. Pete G., if you read this, it's been a while - I am aware we can store our site on yours (National AACA) but I have found when I do uploads and check the site sometimes I make mistakes and need to get back in and make changes to links or photos not displaying or quick updates. The way I understood it, is we upload to you and then you load them. I am trying to find an inexpensive web host because of 110 members, about 25 are now on line and the others don't have a clue about web space and it's going to be a little battle to explain to them why we need to put up a few bucks. So, if any other club that has a suggestion our there I will listen...thanks...Norm E.

I use the AACA web hosting for our region and have never waited for an update. The changes are instantaneous. As soon as I publish the changes through Front Page, I can bring up the page on the Internet and the changes are there. I like this, because I will also often find mistakes or typos I made.. then all I need to do is make the correction in Front Page and publish the changed pages. Within a minute or two (as long as it takes for Front Page to publish the revised pages), the updated web page can be seen by the world.
I often wondered why AACA regions would use a web host other than AACA's service. I may be wrong, but I believe the AACA web hosting is one of the best there is for the regions .. esecially for the price!
The hosting is free... there are no space limitations, and updates can be made as many and as often was desired. And when ever there is a problem, Peter always provides great "customer" support.
From talking to Peter G. over the years, it seems that Peter prefers to limit his involvment in the individual websites unless he is needed for a problem, prefering to let the webmaster have his own control over the site.
Im interested in what benefits other regions have found by using a web host other than the AACA?
[ 09-21-2001: Message edited by: BruceW ]

Thanks Bruce...I wasn't aware we could upload directly - I thought all material was reviewed first (but that was probably over a year ago when I looked into it)..I have Front Page 98 and only used the front page editor to design my pages...I need to read into this more on using it the way it was designed for....maybe even get a book!!!

Norm,
I am the editor for the Harford Region's "Harford Horn" newsletter and its webmaster, and I use Frontpage 98 too. Uploading revised pages is as simple as clicking on "Publish Front Page Web" button under File menu. As soon as it gets done doing its thing.. you can look at the results on the web.
Only minor thing I don't like about the Front Page menu setup is that "Delete Frontpage Web" is directly under the "Publish Frontpage Web" command. I guess if you hit delete, there is a confirmation message but it makes me paranoid so I am real careful about pressing the right button. Bruce, Bill Gates knows that we really didn't mean to push that delete button the first time. There is a confrimation so that if we do accidently delete something we are dummies. (Maybe that is why I've got three three books "(title) for Dummies" sitting on my shelf.
You can get "Frontpage 98 for Dummies" book. I've found computer books to be good only as reference material. Not a sit down and study how to kind of book.
[ 09-23-2001: Message edited by: novaman ]

I finally upgraded my computer and was able to get Front Page up and running. You all were right on how easy it is to get the pages up and running and to update them...thanks for all your help...
Norm E.
Volusia Region AACA
