Zenith Carb

Okay, I need some help out there. Two years ago I bought a '29 Dodge fire truck. After playing around with it a little, the carb started acting up. To make a long story short, it's junk! It's a Zenith updraft 2 barrel, number 105DC. I'm told the engine is a Dodge Senior Six, but I can't verify that. I talked to the carb guy out around St. Louis and he told me they used that carb on Stutz's and Buda engines. He had no record of it being used on the Dodge. The problem is it's pot metal and it's deteriorating to the point that it's ready to crumble in my hand. I thought about getting it recast out of brass or stainless, but the acccelator pump is stuck in the bowl. I've been told that many senior six owners use a Stromberg UU-2 or something like that. Does anybody out there know for sure? Where can I find a good picture of a senior six engine? I'm in the Pittsburgh area. <BR>One unique feature of this engine is that a rod to work the carb travels through the block from one side of the engine to the other. Anybody have any suggestions or a remedy other than C-4?

You are right, the Zenith, due to its age, is junk. The UU2 is a good replacement, I have used two of them on Stutz's, which were originally fitted with the Zenith. Some change in the jetting might be necessary, but make sure that the venturies are the same size or very close to the size in the original carb. You might have to do some machine work or make inserts to get it the same. The Stromberg is a good carb and it shouldn't be too much trouble to adapt linkage to work. Good luck, Steve
