Markamp
I recently became the proud owner of a 1963 Buick Riviera and I am getting her ready for safety check. Right now the wipers are working intermittently (no pun intended) and I suspect (hope) a loose wire at motor - that said I can't find the motor . I have a Chassis manual for 1964 Riviera that came with car but motor is [color:"black"] n't in the same spot (firewall). I suspect it is under dash . Anyone out there that can help out a rookie would be much appreciated. RivNut
You would have to start with one of the more difficult problems. The wiper motor is almost unobtainium. If your chassis manual doesn't tell you how to get at it that should have been your first clue. It's actually on the firewall inside the inner fender. The best way to get at it is to actually remove the fender. Secondly, you can have a friend help you. You'll need to get the hood open, prop it open, then find a way to keep it in that position while you remove the hood hinge from the driver's side and blindly try to reach inside the hole that's now exposed and see what you can do by feel. Not a fun way to get started on a new project.
Markamp
Thanks, appreciate your assistance. We looked everywhere, at least we now know where it is .
Guest oakland
I had the same problem. I had to rebuild the washer pump. I removed the hood completely and the driver side spring assembly in order to work on mine. I marked all the locations where the hood attached to both spring assemblies and where the driver side spring assembly mounted to make sure they were put back in the right position. It wasn't an easy project. Seems like they could of mounted the wiper moter somewhere else. Good luck.
TexRiv_63
Hi, not sure if this will help but I found out the hard way on my 63 that a bad ground to the wiper switch will affect the operation of the wipers. I had the console out for other work and had the switch just lying loose, in my case the wipers went on by themselves and would not shut off! After trial and error I attached a ground wire from the dash support to the switch housing and the problem went away. Check to see that your switch is tightly installed and see if it helps your problem. Good luck!
