How many TC's?

A fellow from Florida (I think) had a friend run a national search for TC's (he was probably a cop doing a favor) and he said there are 2,000 registered TC's in the US. Karleen and some others believe there are a lot more, but so far as actual registered "living" TC's, I think he's right It would be entirely possible to live a long, long life and never see ONE of these gorgeous cars. What fun to see more than thirty TCs running around Laguna Seca in a very long line.

For some reason EBAY pulled that listing on the 5 speed TC. I was a bidding pretty hard on it and poof it was gone. It may have been God's way to save me from my wonderful bride of 30 years since she has threatened me with more eery threats, if I even look at another TC, much less buy another one. Geeeez I do believe the 200 number is close. Of the 11 TC's we have bought, we have not registered any of them as of yet. And it seems that Larry has around 105 of them now. And probably most of those are noth registerred anymore. I had heard from the friend in Florida that there were around 1600 TC's registered. If so there are probably that many again that are driveable that are tucked away somewhere that are not kept registered. I definately would like to see a Registry started to keep up with these Beautiful Cars. Tom

Don't know how much creedance to put into this, but I met a retired Chrysler Engineer at the Car show here in Boston this past fall, who told me there are fewer than 3,000 of the TC's left. Although I don't know where he got this number from, considering the actual number produced, it sounds about right. And after seeing the condition that most of these are in, it seems to make sense.

Karleen made a good point at the meet that TC America's roughly 1,000 members in themselves account for well more than that many roadworthy cars. I would not be surprised if even after 17 years or so 50% of the production remained extant. That would be in excess of 3,500 cars.

The definitve way to conduct a national registration search would be to do it by the first 4 letters of the VIN's, which are distinctive for the TC. I had once contacted R.L. Polk for the purpose of having this done, but the cost was prohibitive.

  • 5 years later...

If anyone is really trying to keep tabs on the 16v cars, put me down for one. The heart of Dan Culkin's 16v TC now beats in my car and pretty strongly, too. Was driving home late last night, the road was empty, so I let the full weight of my foot settle on the gas pedal. Man, did she fly! And unlike my son's 2007 Mustang, the motor was almost whisper quiet.

Man, I love this car!!

Here is the database I keep updating everytime I run across an ad with VIN for a TC. Up to 291 so far, and very few sequential VINs in the list. I have a couple of things I use the list for, start of woodgrain trim, end of fuzzy speaker covers, and finding the range of VINs that apparently don't exist from either not being made or being destroyed at factory for some reason.

Removed the old list, please see the new post of 6/25/2013 for the newest information.

Hi Ghosty!

I see my '91 there! Good work! My build date for Serial #208267 is 04/90. So you now have another production cut-off point. My car is the first car built of the last production month.

Also, I have one to confirm dead. It's a 1991, 3/90, Serial #207964, Yellow/Ginger/Ginger, V6, Auto o/d, yes, yes, no (what the heck are fuzzy speakers?) No plaque. It is a parts car from a private party.

I'm glad to see that you're keeping track of this stuff. It's nice to know!

Put me down for:

1989 VIN 202012 yellow-ginger-black auto yes yes

Will have to dig around to get the data for the 16v donor car

Add mine to this list too. 1990 white/black V6 Auto, built 10/89, VIN 205825, bought it off the east coast and it came titled as a Maserati body type convertible. Took 4 hours at the DMV to get the title work done, they wanted to tax me for a Spider and couldn't find a NADA book value for a Chrysler TC. It took a conference call with the local office, the state capitol main office and the National Auto Dealers Association to decide that my "exotic/specialty" vehicle didn't qualify for the old car flat rate tax. Car is now titled as a Chrysler TCM.

I'm writing all this down, assuming those with only 2 yes/no responses left out the fuzzy speaker column. Fuzzy speakers are those with a carpet type cover instead of just fabric, and there are a few non-fuzzy mixed in with the fuzzy so I think this is a production problem and they used what they had on hand until production of non-fuzzy covers met demand. Digger's TC is already on the list. The list on the yahoo group is a combination of what owners have added themselves-and can edit themselves, what I have added and only I (and the Yahoo Group owner) can edit but if someone adds the VIN again then they can complete more info for the TC.

I check the list for added on TC VINs every once in a while and edit to keep the list searchable by column with identical entries. I'll wait a while before editing the list with info from this post.

Ahhhh. Okay, Ghosty! Carpet Fuzzies. I know what you're talking about now! My '86 Town and Country had those. Thanks! And again, great work!

Here's one more. Just purchased.

205504 1990 Yellow Black Black Yes Yes No No Plaque

What about engine and trans? Assuming 6 cyl and auto o/d but could be a 16valve 5 speed.

This is another sequential VIN, comes after 205503 which is also yellow/black/black.

Just to let you know, I just bought 205348 & brought it back to Canada.

OK, what year, engine, trans, color combo body/interior/softtop, factory slave cd player, woodgrain trim, fuzzy speaker covers, build date and what number is on the plaque if it has one?

For the TC inventory - 1989 (don't know where to find "build date"); VIN#200440; cabernet/bordeaux/? (never looked); 4 cylinder turbo; auto; no, no, yes they are fuzzy; plaque? would that be the brass "made for" name plate with number? if so, ours is 89-43 (there is also a name but wasn't sure if I should post that).

Car is white on ginger, 1990, 27000 miles, 413 auto (not 604-ultrdrive,thank god),ginger top, no CD ,woodgrain?, fuzzy speakers?, built Sept 89, no plaque, bought in Boyton Beach, Fla. I have all books & paperwork (confidential dealer info, videos for dealer prep, etc., as I worked at Chrysler Canada & was responsible for determining if the car could come to Canada. Also we had two burgandy cars at our engineering garage for inspection, but were later scrapped. Bob Barrow

I need the last 4 of the VIN before I can add your car! All 90 and 91 models should have the woodgrain trim for the window switches, radio surround, instrument panel surround and console area. These two years should also NOT have the fuzzy (carpet type) speaker covers.
