Prolock starter disable system, why would someone install it?

I have always wondered what the little black thing below my dash was, until today. I was outside and decided that I would do some research on it, and I found out that it is a key for Prolock starter disable systems. And it does work still because without the key, the car acts just as if the VATS resisor on the ignition key is dirty. That is what made me wonder why one of the past owner(s) would install something like this, if the VATS system already stops the car from being hotwired (well unless the thief just happens to have a resistor of the correct value with him heh) what would be the point of another starter disableing system. It just seems like more to go wrong.

it basicaly boils down to this: some people just like more security than others, and are not happy with stock systems.

I work in Philadelphia...

There is no such thing as too much anti-theft security!

Every security level buys you more time...

Unless they bring a flatbed rollback truck...

Then you are out of luck!

heh true, its just, when I see all this extra stuff I see me 100 miles from home not being able to start my car because one of these security systems decided to fail.

One word...

Lo-Jack!

$695.00 and worth every solitary penny! I have the old system. Installed somewhere behind the engine cradle, so good luck disabling it; set to notify as soon as alarm is set off or I can call; easily defeated if you can get it under a parking garage before alarm goes off or I call, which is not happening, because they can tell where it was last "seen" by the satellites. New system, you have to call in before they'll track, but parking garages can't easily defeat them, and they can still track to last known location.

Like I said, cheap and worth every penny! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
