Guest dcdpgh
I'm trying to complete some engine bay detailing work that previous owner(s)left unfinished. By the clean condition of the engine bay somebody did some decent work in there, but they skipped the easiest part and did not replace all the engine bay decals. I think I know that the battery decal ("positive to positive") goes right in front of the battery, and the "instructions if the headlights do not pivot" decal is there just right of center on the top radiator support. Where then does the "emissions" decal go? It looks like it could go either on the top curvature of the fan shroud or just above and to the right of the "headlights" decal on the top rad support. Anybody with an original '68 know the correct locations? Thanks in advance, any input would be apprectiated.
68RIVGS
Hi again Dan -The emission/tune up decal goes on the upper rad support just left of centre if your facing the car, or towards the passenger side of the car, about mid way. Take a look at some evilBay 4 sale pics and that may give you a rough idea. I personaly have never seen a '68 Riv with the emergency head lamp operating instructions, or battery + terminal decal? I would think the most logical location for it would be on the flat surface (drivers side) just above the hood release pull rod ?I purchased one but never did install it. Maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Guest dcdpgh
Thanks Randy,The one I was most uncertain about was the "emissions" decal. The "emergency head lamp operating instructions" is already there, in the location you suggested seemed correct (on the flat surface just above the hood release pull). Good suggestion on the ebay pics, I have looked at the few I could, but could not draw a consistent conclusion. Figured I would put my ROA membership to use and get a better answer from experienced folk here. Thanks again.
Guest Riviera66
I concur with Randy H. It seems like they sell way more decals than the factory used. I bought a battery decal for my 66 and installed it... but afterwards noted that I've never seen a '66 to '70 with one on it that wasn't a repro / installed later. On the 'emergency headlight', I really only see originals on '69s; I always look at '68s to see what decals are there originally but haven't noticed an original of this one yet. Guest dcdpgh
Thanks Darwin.BTW, I received my first issue of the Riview last week and saw the notice of new Board of Trustees nominations - congratulations on your nomination!
68RIVGS
Check my attachment to get an idea of the location Dan. The decal is a repro, but the location is factory original - slightly off kilter, just like the original ! The decal on top of the left inner fender panel is the GM Oshawa 'Oil Decal' found on all Rivieras imported to Canada, (not used on US vehicles), and detailed viscosity recomendations for cold weather (winter) operations. Again the 'off kilter' application is per the factory original. The other decals that are located almost randomly are the GM embossed 'Mark of Excellence' foil labels that attach to the rear flat surface of the doors just above the latch/striker opening. The Jacking instructions decal is located in the upper left corner of the trunk lid - just above the trunk light. (off kilter)The Tire pressure decal goes on the inside of the glove box door, and there is a small Lighter reset decal that sits just below the lighter in the dual ash tray pull out body.Trust this helps !
