Greg,

WOW ! what a stockpile of information you have there !

I motion that we make you our AACA authority on Lense Identification.

My question is a simple one although it may take a bit of research.

Since most of us are trying to identify lenses at a swap meet or salvage yard

we don't have the luxury of the original box or part number.

However usually there is a alpha-numeric code molded into the lense itself

I wonder if there is any way to "decode" these markings.

Most of the guide lense markings I have seen contain a prefix and a suffix to borrow a couple of terms from HS English.

The Suffix Part at the end

is a two digit number indicationf the FIRST model year the lense was used.

i.e. " -55 " would first have appeared on a 1955 model although in some cases it might aso be used say in 1956 and 1957 but still retain the " -55 "number.

The BIG QUESTION is what about the Prefexes is an "R5- " always a Cadillac ?

are there several OTHER Prefixes for Cadillac ?

I recently sold some Chevy pickup lights that had "1F1-55" marked on them.

Just wondering if there is any common sensical pattern ?

Thank you for your research and reply,

I know that there is a code. I do not know the codes altogether. I don't need to.

I have 30 or more Guide Books to look them up. There is Always a number on the

lens, even if you don't have a Box with a number on it. Greg...NEW1966

I have over 800 Parts Books and I wouldn't take a million for them. Too

many years to find them, plus a quite a few thousand invested.

would you have anything in your collection that would help identify applications of headlight lenses prior to 1930? Brands like Flintex, Warner Patterson, Osgood, Bausch & Lomb,McKeelite, Spreadlight, and others? I'd be glad to pay for app. list of cars from the early years to about 1928 or so.
