R W Burgess
This may be a little long, bear with me!Misspent youth, easily forgotten! First the car; This picture came back to me from my children as their mother passed away two weeks ago at the age of 57. Surprisingly, my ex-wife kept all of the wedding pictures from 1969. As you can see the Chevelle was well decorated. Back to 1967, Uncle Sam had decided to send me on a touring expedition to the west coast. "See the Pacific Ocean, Wayne! Just don't leave the "Fort Ord" perimeter." Before I left Virginia, I turned in my '64 Impala to the local Chevy dealer as a trade on a to-be-announced new order Chevy. As my term in California neared midpoint I ordered the new Chevelle you see above. I mailed all of the options I wanted to "Joe Hick Chevy" as he didn't have a clue about big block chevy's with mechanical lifters. Sampling of options were 375 hp 396 cu.in.,4-speed trans, 373 rear, SS package, bucket seats, console, and delete hubcaps. While on the left coast, I started shopping for aftermarket wheels. Everyone out there had Americans, or none at all. Wanting to be different(haven't changed a bit), I ordered a set of "Flag" aluminum wheels, a west coast company. I haven't a clue where they were made. Anybody else heard of them? At any rate, they stayed on the Chevelle, until I traded her off in 1971. The car was pretty fast. The Tiger Paws couldn't grip the road in any gear while shifting, really cool in those days, having the rear shift out between gear shifts. I never raced it, other than messing around with the guys. She averaged about 10 miles per gallon around town, 12 on a trip. My Dad picked me up at Dulles Airport(Northern Virginia) in the new Chevelle on my air flight back home. We had to put a quart of oil in her to drive the 120 miles back home. She got a little better over time at about a quart per 1000 miles. Dad also got 13 miles per gallon that day, the best it ever got. I was too busy kissing my girlfriend(future first wife) in the back seat to worry about driving home that day. So, the Chevelle is long gone, and now so is the girl in my life at that time. I will certainly miss them both.Wayne

Shop Rat
Indeed that has to be very hard. No one got to say goodbye.Back many years ago I lived beside a great couple. We all rented from the same guy. The lady had recently finished nursing school and they had raised six kids. Her husband was having breakfast and when he finished he went upstairs to finish getting ready for work and she was lying dead in the hallway. A massive stroke took her life. R W Burgess
Dizz, too young and immature at that time in my life for any senaganies(SIC)Yeh, my school friend put the customizing touchs on the car. The sign at the back left says,"Help I'm being kidnaped!"The hood has 1/4 horsepower smeared on with shoe polish. I had a flat before I got to VA Beach that day for our honeymoon week. Don't remember any more details. WaynePS, sure hope Gloria doesn't read this!
