Guest
just wondering if anyone here has put a 5-speed manual transmission into a reatta or if they know someone that has ...
Thanks!
~Brenda
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html
Guest
Was there a GM platform the used the 3800 in a FWD configuration and manual transmission?
You gotta think the cost of doing this would be prohibitive.
Guest
Checked out your website. Zoiks! You want to race this beast! Never thought of the Reatta as a drag racer. The 0-60 in the mid-high 9's and 1/4 mile speeds in the mid 70mph range are probably why. Stock Ford Focus' and Civic Si's can leave us trailing.
If you are committed to racing (and if you can find this stuff) I'd consider a performance chip for about $160, a freer flowing exhaust, better breathing air filter, maybe some suspension updates, sticky tires, and check out autocross. Guest
Put the powertrain from a 97-98 Pontic grand prix in it. I did. It is a 3800 supercharged engine. Add a 5 speed Getrag 5 speed from any late model GM product and leave most of your competition in the dust. The 3800sc is easy to add several performance mods to it and then put everyone in your rear view mirror.
aricrickard@www.com

quote:
Originally posted by miata'nreatta:
Checked out your website. Guest
to miata'nreatta:
At this point, I'm not looking to do the conversion for racing purposes, but rather for personal preferances. As a drag car, the Reatta with stock automatic) is perfect for bracket racing. It may not be fast, but it is consistant (16.7 sec @82mph on the 1/4). ALso, the 3800 motor was & still is GMs most popular engine it's in many of their vehicles. Anything from the reatta to a gran national, to even the firebird's & camaro's ... plus many more. Most of these other cars had the option of a stick in them as well.
to aricrickard:
Thank you for answering the post - if you would, could email me any info on conversions/modifications necessary to put this in: supension/mounts/computer issues? Any info you can provide would be helpful, so I'll know what I'm getting into & decide if it'll be worth the hassles .... thanks bunches!!!
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html

Guest
Well, it seems 'aricrickard' either hasn't checked back or chooses not to answer. I did talk to a dealership here in southern NH & they said they could do it, but would have to fabricate mounts & such .... adding up to much more than I would want to pay ...
~Brenda
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html
TheBlackMoon
Question...
Since the 3800 is still being used in many GM's even to this day, can a more modern, more durable tranny fit on our Reattas without expensive mods?
Guest
This all depends on if your car has a computer controlled tranny yet.
The 4T65-E should bolt in.. inexpensively? I doubt it.
As for a 5 speed, the mid/late 80's Oldsmobile Calais used a five speed manual behind a 3.0L Buick engine. This would also work nicely, but I don't know how strong they were...
Ideas?
Derek

------------------
1968 "Canadian" Pontiac Beaumont
1988 Buick LeSabre T-Type
Guest
I had been considering the 5 or 6-speed manual transmission from other 1990-1999 GM vehicles. Cars like the Firebirds, Camaros, Gran Ams/Grand Prixs, Trans Ams tended to have a model offered with the 3800 motor & a stick-shift ....
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html
