1966 conv.---glass or plastic rear window?

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to order a new top for the 1966 Electra convertible. The BCA Judging Manual does not specify what type of rear window it should have.  Is it glass or plastic--anyone know? Supplier offers both, and of course plastic is cheaper.

At around 16 yrs old I remember a neighbors 66 Impala with a glass window. However if this car isn't equiped with A/C I would opt for a zippered plastic one if it was available.

As I recall, Ford started the "glass" rear window in convertibles, hinged horontally in the middle, on their 1965 full-size Fords and Mercurys.  GM and Chrysler HAD to follow suit in order to "keep up".

Might look at some sales brochures?

It was never clear to me (;)) that the hinge in the middle was preferable to plastic.  Neither is optimal, but for different reasons.
