Dig
Is it okay to use 3/4" heater hose for the bypass between the water-pump and the thermostat housing on the straight 8 Buick? I just installed, and after a 30 minute drive it looked like the hose was swollen in the middle. Could be my imagination, but don't think so. Thanks. Dig
I have the exact same car as you do. Same model, same year. More comfortable than my living-room sofa.

Dig
Ben, you said this is what I use. What exactly did you mean? Yes, it would be nice to meet up, we're only 932 miles apart. Road trip!
Ben Bruce aka First Born
I use heater hose. On the bypass. Bt the way, is the bypass OPEN to the pump suction? When I did my engine, I had the pump rebuilt . Installed it. came fall and needed the heater, no heat. After much fooling around, I discovered the passage to the suction was plugged. Cleaned it out and the heater worked. Of course, the engineering reason for the bypass is to have a small amount of water circulating through the engine while the thermostat is closed. Rusty_OToole
Swollen hose indicates pressure as if the outlet was blocked somehow. You may need to drill a small hole in the thermostat or it could be blocked by debris.
