Pontiac59
I don't know how you tell real from repro. I presume the rear edges are where they would differ the most. Anyone know? Anyone know where I can find photos to compare with?
auburnseeker
Not 100 percent sure, But I believe it's original, I don't remember the little bumps at the top corners covered by the lacing on my repro shell. however with a good chunk of the lower section cut off and no insert, not incredibly valuable. I would guesstimate 100 bucks or so. You would have a real rough time finding an original bottom nice enough to graft it to that wasn't already attached to a good shell. Mark Wetherbee
I am pretty sure that 32 still has a radiator cap which protruded through the top, unless it was welded over I think it is a reproduction
Pontiac59
It's been widened and filled. Work is ridiculously poor, not recent, but who knows how old. I'd sure like to see some photos of the back of the real deal, since I have one opinion yes and on another site two opinions that it's not even Ford. I didn't pay much for it and don't expect it to be worth a hell of a lot -
auburnseeker
From the 32 grille shells I could find on line it may not be 32 Ford as none had the ribbed spots at the upper corners under the hood lacing. Though I don't know of any other grille that had the same shape.
Pontiac59
I agree, that's what makes it questionable to me. I even edited a picture to take the width out and it looks spot on. The underneath, if you cut that ugly patch out and put it back to the width it came, the radiator cap hole would be perfectly round.
95Cardinal
Several great pics in these 2 threads. I am not a Deuce expert, but I don't recall ever seeing the multiple indentations along the perimeter on an original Ford shell. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/original-1932-ford-grill-shell-and-insert.922565/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/early-1932-ford-grill-shell-sold.1037106/
Spinneyhill
Any chance it has been fitted to a tractor or something similar?
auburnseeker
I would assume the cut down and widening was for a hot rod. Not many guys would take the time to cut down and stretch a shell to fit their tractor. A farmer would just run without it all together.
