Position of spark control

You can check and be sure by taking off the dist. cap and seeing which way the points and cam line up with the lever up and then down. When the points open sooner in relation to the direction of the cam the spark is considered advanced.

  Take your dist. cap off and move the lever , when it moves the points the same direction as the rotor when you turn over the eng. that is retard for when you start your car.   if you

 

moving the points  against rotation of the rotor thats advance.    You can use this on all manual timing advance levers
