rodneybeauchamp
Hi all, am replacing the roof rail weatherstrips on my ‘63. Have got the old one out and have removed the stainless retaining sections to clean it properly. Shop manual states to put a 3/16” bead of approved weatherstrip adhesive (thinking 3M black) on the outboard edge of the new weatherstrip as well as on the outside of the stainless retainer. Can others chime in here as to what they used on the outside of the retainer as it seems it needs more like a body sealer than an adhesive. But what would I know, I’m only the caretaker ????? thanks Rodney
bodayguy
These go in pretty easily. I only used a small amount of black 3M in the corners and edges. It should fit tight even without much adhesive.
TexRiv_63
I agree with Rich. When I did mine I don't think I used any adhesive on the weatherstrip itself but you should put some on the stainless bracket.

The sealant between the stainless bracket and the roof also acts as a water seal. Two pieces of metal against each other doesn't do much to seal water out.
