keiser31
Any clues as to what this engine is from? Looks to be aluminum. These are the only photos I have and no numbers. Thanks.
dictator27
Six cylinder, right hand drive, Perrot type brakes? British or European? A shot in the dark, but got to start somewhere.
keiser31
I am trying to find someone who can ID it for someone else. I have no other information on it. I am not even certain that engine goes with either of those chassis.
Spinneyhill
There is soil under it on top of another chassis etc. It has been scooped up with a digger or FEL and put in a heap with the chassis, not connected to any of them. Distributor drive on right front with drive shaft along RHS - e.g. water pump, starter, generator? Very wide Morse chain at front for timing drive. Gear lever lock.
ROD W
The gearbox looks the same as this one, which has BOHNALITE written on it. A Google search found this was The Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corporation who made aluminium and brass specialty castings for Packard and other auto companies. Also sponsored the Bohnalite Special which raced in the 1934 Indy 500. using Bohnalite cylinder heads and pistons.
Layden B
Hudson.
nzcarnerd
If it is a Hudson the engine number will be on the left side engine mount (the aluminium casting leg) according to The Standard Catalog. Whether front or rear I don't know. Unfortunately there is no engine number dating info.

keiser31
Yep... looks like a 1916 Hudson engine. Thanks, Layden B!
drwatson
This image is listed as 1921 Essex. Details look like the tranny in the posts #1 & #5.
keiser31
Yep... Hudson... Essex.
Dave Henderson
Chilton says Essex didn't get six cylinders until 1923; MoToR Specification Tables say 1924. I have Essex motor numbers from 1918 thru 1929 and Hudson numbers from 1914 through 1929. Could zero in on it if the serial number can be found. nzcarnerd
My guess is the engine number is partly hidden behind the sheet metal visible in the photo. BTW has to be Hudson as the Essex engine is a cast iron monoblock type.
