MarkV
The old Camshaft was finished and bad in several places it also had a bent push rod! I am also having them replace the timing gear and chain, water pump, harmonic balancer, compressor, belts, thermostat, etc at the same time. Should be done tomorrow, dropped it off last saturday!

Bloo
I was about to post back and ask what happened. Glad you are getting it sorted out. P.S. Make sure whichever valve had that bent pushrod is not stuck. and unstick it if it is. P.P.S. All that coking around the heat crossover passage is fairly normal, but if there is a heat riser make sure it is free, and not stuck or staying shut for some reason. Your exhaust valves will thank you. It looks like it has been really hot. Edited June 6, 2018 by Bloo (see edit history)
Rusty_OToole
Looks pretty clean inside but then it is a low mile motor. Bent pushrods indicate a stuck valve. This happens after long storage on good engines with tight clearances. Test for stuck valves by lightly tapping the end of the valve with a hammer. It should bounce back off the spring, if it goes thud you have a stuck valve. Try squirting some penetrating oil on it and prying up then tap up and down until it is free. Once the engine is running you should have no more trouble.
