Ducksinarow
Hey Guys I have a 1958 Buick Special. The 364 is Blown. The transmission is a Flight Pitch 2 speed auto Dynaflow. Is there another easier engine to find that will fit the tranny? The flywheel is mounted to the torque converter.
PONTIAC1953
a buick 401, or 425 should be pretty easy to swap in.
MrEarl
Hey Ducksinarow, while I'm sure there are folks here who can and will help with this, you may also want to post this question in the Buick Club forum. http://forums.aaca.org/forum/57-buick-post-war/
Rusty_OToole
Maybe another Buick up to 1964. In 1965 they got a completely new engine and transmission. No other engine will fit your transmission. No other transmission will fit your car because of the torque tube drive. It is theoretically possible to gut your car like a trout and install a complete new drive train but you would have to change engine, trans, driveshaft, rear axle, and engineer a new rear suspension. Best answer rebuild your old engine. If the rod is sticking thru the block find another Buick engine. They are not common anymore but they are around.
dei
Engine wise both 57 & 58 's will interchange widening the field a bit for you. Hence transmissions will interchange also but they have slightly different universal yokes for the drive shafts. That is an easy single bolt on change. Good luck, they are out there but naturally condition is everything as is location finding one.

Ducksinarow
Rod thru cyl wall. I bought another engine in Paw Paw, IL But cylinders are pitted to bad, Would like to buy a good running or rebuilt motor to fit the trany.
jrbartlett
Since you already bought an engine, why not rebuild it and sleeve the cylinders? It's done all the time. Might be your cheapest, easiest and fastest way to go.

g-g-g0
Where are you located? I likely have a block with pistons and crank. Been stored inside since removed from a car. It is out of a ‘57 Century. Gary South Bend, IN

Rusty_OToole
I stand corrected on the model year changeover. On the pitted cylinder walls how bad are they? Those old Buick engines can be bored at least 1/16" maybe more. The Buick experts may be able to tell us. It is very unlikely the cylinders can't be trued up unless the motor was laying outside with the heads off for 20 years.
