Spinneyhill
The 1958 Champion 5G 185 cu.in. engine numbers started at 1,228,401. Yours is the 1232nd in that series. It looks like a 1958 Champion engine!
Jeffrey Heermans
Maybe this car is Champion & not a Scotsman
Spinneyhill
Is the Scotsman a Champion trim version? It is certainly a champion (58G). W1 is the body style - maybe that means Scotsman (is that a wagon?).

Spinneyhill
There is a Wikipedia article about the Studebaker Scotsman. And this: http://www.classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=5465&year=1958&model=29385 It has a Carter carburetor so it would be expected it might have a Carter fuel pump. Is it a single acting pump on the car now? The windscreen wipers are still connected to the manifold vacuum?
