Recommended Posts

Hi, just started to replace a rusted core plug and on removing the first one found this small tube / bar behind it.  Seems attached at one end though not sure if should be at both or its just some rubbish??

Hoping its not important.....any ideas Thanks

No expert, but I believe that wires were embedded in some sand cores and that they often were left behind when the sand was removed from the finished casting. My guess is the reason for the wires was to give the sand mould core some strength. I hope someone with real foundry experience can chime in.

Not a foundry expert either, but it is not unusual to see remains of the casting core. Ford did get better at cleaning them out as time went on. Several years ago I got a so much sand out of a 61 352 block it filled a coffee can.
