Get an official GM 1953 Buick Shop Manual. On a Google or DuckDuckGo search there are dozens of manuals listed.

https://www.amazon.com/1953-Buick-Shop-Manual-Motors/dp/B000M7UY2K

I was going to list other choices but with all the originals available at reasonable prices there is really no other choice.  Buy the manual and read it from cover to cover, word by word.  Do not skim over anything.  There are numerous people on this forum and others that get a manual skim over it and then either screw something up (usually reversible but always more costly in time and money).  If you don't understand what it says ask in the "Buick -Post War forum".

I had two 1953 Buicks, one standard and one automatic.  Great cars.  Good luck with yours.

Your 53 Special engines will be the 263ci with modern replaceable shell bearings. Pretty much a straight forward overhaul. I got most of my parts from Terrill Machine in DeLeon Texas and a few from Egge. I updated my 37 Special 248 engine to the 263 but kept the much less problematic solid lifters.

I just bought a 1953 Buick special.  I was given 2 straight 8 motors with it both have been torn apart and I'm looking for a manual to help me re build one or both. any help out there

You need a 1952 Buick Shop Manual to get familiar with Buick's straight eight engine, brakes, transmission, etc. details. The 1953 Buick Shop Manual was considered a supplement to the 1952 Shop Manual and mainly addressed the first-year Buick V8 engine.
