jfiely
Hello All, Any recommendations for a hubcap restoration shop/person? I have one really good cap. Most of the others range from decent to fair at best. Does anyone know what the material of the outer cover is made of? Steel, Stainless ect... Of course if anyone has some decent ones that they are willing to part with, let me know. Thanks
keiser31
I believe the skin is chrome plated brass. The skin can be carefully removed and restored, but is a bear to re-attach without a lot of work. Spinneyhill
You can peel the skin off, but it will be work hardened and will crack. I used an old blunt paring knife. It is best to anneal the brass before you start. My 1930 Dodge skins were made of 0.030" thick brass and the shell was zinc plated (or maybe Cad plated).
