I should have added that the guy does a lot of his own prep work BEFORE he takes it to the painter.

 

I had a guy with a Model T, had a kit he wanted me to install.  Took the old material out, there was the original burlap behind the front seat backrest, complete with mouse nests and rusty metal where the little critters had peed all over everything.  I showed it to him, he said just put the new upholstery right over it, no one will ever know.  Well, guess who would know, I refused....I get your point...
