harvest
can someone tell me what these lights are originally to and what era? I got them at a garage yard sale last summer and finally have time to tinker with them. the rusty light is 7" diameter at the lens outer ring. the smaller headlight canister style is 4.5" at the lens. I have plans to at least get the canister style light working for my garden tractor but would still like to know what is was originally to? thank you for any help. J.H.Boland
The first lamp dates from the late teens or early twenties. The clamps attach it to the windshield post on a touring or roadster. The second drum type one dates from the mid twenties and was usually referred to as a ditch light. It was mounted on the front bumper bracket to detect critters about to cross the road in front of you. I know of one fellow who uses a pair of these for front turn signals. Jim
Friartuck
On the first lamp, the empty hole is where a mirror would be placed to use as a rear view mirror. The handle on the end would make a nice way to adjust and is quite effective on watching traffic coming up on the driver's side. I have one on my 1925 Roadster.
