Guest
The casting number does not specify it's a Stage motor. You need to look between spark plug 1 and 3. There you will find the engine serial number. The first to digits will be letters, these are the magic combination. If it's a '70 block they should be SS, a '71 should be TS, a '72 should be WS, and a '73 could be XS or XA.
------------------
George C. Guest 455stage1
The two digit engine code is found between the #5 and #7 spark plugs. The second letter should be an 'S' (at least for 1969-1972 models). You probable need to de-grease the engine to find the code stamping.
According to http://www.atlantabuick.com/Heads.htm
The block casting is 1972-1974.
Happy Thanksgiving!
------------------
Marc Conigliari
'70 Stage 1 Conv 4-speed
http://members.home.net/mconigliari/main.htm
[This message has been edited by Marc Conigliari (edited 11-23-2000).]
Guest
Apologies, Marc is Correct!!!! Between 5 and 7 is the production code #'s. I attempted to use my memory, instead of going to the basement and looking. Sorry 'bout the confusion.
------------------
George C.
