Indian 101
I have unfortunately had a noise in my Hydraulic Shift transmission in my 1950 Desoto with Fluid drive. I do not have the knowledge to open this myself, but is there anything I can do without to disassemble the transmission. The noise is especially prominent in the power range (1. and 2. gear) and may sound like 2 gear touch each other. I am very grateful for any advice. The gearbox works otherwise excellent, but this noise has unfortunately gotten worse.
JACK M
I was recently talking with an old guy about these fluid drives and he told me of a fellow near here that works on these and has parts. I don't have one so don't know much more than that. However, I did get the guys phone number that knows these things and if you send me a PM I will give you the phone number. (if I can still find it)
Rusty_OToole
Can you describe the noise and exactly when, and under what driving conditions it happens?
Indian 101
My english is still bad.., but I will try to describe the noise and under what driving conditions it happens. You never hear the noise when the clutch are depressed. I can hear the noise in reverse, neutral, power range (1. and 2. gear) and driving range (3. and 4. gear), but the noise is absolute worst in power range. In power range you hear the noise all the time. In driving range you just hear a small noise when the car drives easy (you don't hear it when the car accelerates). In neutral I can hear the noise, but if I carefully press the gear shift handle against reverese the sound decreases. In reverse I hear the noise mostly when I releases the gas. c49er
Input shaft bearings or countershaft bearings. Trans will have to come apart and all bearings including free wheeling countershaft bearings and roller bearings. Indian 101
Thanks for reply. I don't have the knowledge to do that work myself. Then I think I have to look for a rebuilt transmission. I described my problem like this when I looked for a good transmission and got this answer about the clutch throw-out bearing. On 25.9.2017 at 6:27 PM, Indian 101 said: The function is perfect, but unfortunately there is a mechanical noise especially in Power range (1. and 2. gir), but I can occasionally hear it also in reverse, neutral and driving range (3. and 4. gir). The sound disappears when I depresses the clutch. Are you 100% sure the noise is coming from the transmission itself? It sounds like it could be the clutch throw-out bearing which is an easy, less expensive fix. Do you also think that the problem/noise may come from this clutch-bearing?
