Need someone in Binghamton, NY area to look at a car.

I am looking for someone in the Binghamton, New York area to take a look at a 1957 car for me before I purchase it.  Typical check-out, nothing too extensive.  Just want to see if the car is advertised correctly.  Any frame rot, paint condition, interior condition, etc.  The car is about 20 minutes north of Binghamton.

 

Happy to pay for gas and your time.

Are you in the area?

So why are you so secretive about what brand of car you are interested in?  A 57 Vette is a completely different animal than a 57 Rolls.

Why not?  Secretive?  I didn't know there were parameters in asking if anyone is in the area.  I stated my phone number to speak further.  

 

Anyways, It's a GM.  If I were buying a high dollar car like a Rolls Royce or Vette, I would have professionals look at it or go myself.  It's not a high dollar car.

The picture is of me in front of my radiator shop.  Just a small time guy looking for a little help within the community.  Concerned?  

If i am offending anyone by asking for a little help I will take the post down.

TV car show producers have influenced the hobby. Crossed arms, feet apart, and a defensive stance and a hallmark of their unstable stars. Some people interpret that as a warning. Just like a 20 foot paint job.

I saw that but didn't comment until another did. The old books about body language covered it well but were forgotten.

 

That's a little help, as well.

Oh , honestly , this is starting to sound like psychobabble. I see on Steve-V's website that he is the son component of a father and son business which has been around for almost 40 years. My suggestion is to help the gentleman out and possibly make a friend if you can. I feel second guessing his motivations is inappropriate , and somewhat demeaning. I am 33 years old and don't own a TV.  Haven't watched it in quite some time.  I also have a flip phone with no smart capabilities.  Opinions are like BUTTHOLES, Everyone's got one..  I can needle you with your signature but I don't feel it's necessary.  Live your life, I will live mine.

Thank you Carl.  I work hard and keep original equipment alive best I can.  It's tough to please every TV-Watching-Keyboard-Ego Personalities.

Steve, 

 

One of the reasons that it would be best for you to put the brand and year in your request is so a person that has that expertise might be able to help you AND have an expertise in that era & area.

 

If possible you would not want a Ford person looking at a GM car and vice a versa.  Also any more that a brass/ nickel person looking at Corvettes or Mustangs or Challengers of the 60's and vice a versa.

 

Even though I own a Corvette, I am by no means an expert.

Steve-V:  I just sent an email to the President of the Chemung Valley Region who is a very good friend to the AACA.  He is on the Library & Research Center committee  The region is in Elmira, NY along the Southern Tier of NY State and about 45 miles or so west of  Binghamton).  Asked him to check out this thread for a possible assistance.  Will let you know when I hear from him.

 

One does not have to be a specialist of any one marque.  If Steve simply wants overall condition or any very obvious alterations from original, etc., it is very easy for anyone to describe the condition.  I did it twice over the years.  One was a very poor condition large late 1970 Buick that was so deteriorated a blind man could tell it was ready for the crusher with very few parts that were reusable.  The other was a mid-1950's Chevy that needed restoration but doable and the gent in Texas bought it based on my inspection as it was as advertised by the owner.

Thanks Roger.  I am always optimistic and forward thinking.  I've dealt with too many people not to get upset over the "little things."

Sometimes the best bet is to look at the car yourself.  Binghamton is not a bad ride (very scenic this time of year) from the Jersey shore and the round trip can easily be done in one day.  I live in Freehold and have made this trip many times.

Thanks Harold, unfortunately at this point a day trip is not possible.  Between the radiator shop and a new Antique Transportation shop I am starting time is not on my side.  

Since you're in Freehold you should stop by some time.
