JFranklin
Before I change the oil does anybody know the filter to use? Fram or Purolator number or something I can cross reference. Thanks. These change ups are all the same except a couple of them are 1/8" larger and a couple are 1/8 smaller in diameter than the original.. Some have inlet and outlet on the same end and some have inlet and outlet on opposite ends. Picture shows several that I have for sale. I hope some of this information helps. c49er
Do you have the replaceable in drop cartridge type oil filter element? The style above is used too but $$$$ and a pain in the U-no-what to replace. Fram C134A or NAPA equivalent is what fits in my Plymouths and dodges up through 1954. ply33
There were three different factory filters and a myriad of after market ones, so answering your question may need additional information. The factory filter information can be found at http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group10#10-C
JFranklin
Thank you guys, that is a lot of interesting information. I have an original replaceable element style. I think I will remove and measure the old cartridge and try Napa. Thanks again. Edited April 26, 2017 by JFranklin (see edit history)
Rusty_OToole
If you take out the old element the part # should be written on the top. Have a container ready, like a small pail with a plastic bag liner or a large juice can. Lift the cartridge out and drop in the container. Wipe the top with a rag and you should see the make and number. Suck out the left over oil and sludge with a suction gun or turkey baster. Wipe clean with rags or waste and drop in the new cartridge. Put the lid on with the new gasket there you are done.
