1939_Buick
Is their a data plate on the right hand side of cowl/firewall Can you read the engine serial number? Series 40 is a Special Series 60 is a Century [61 = 4 door] Series 80 is a Roadmaster Series 90 is a Limited You have a 40 or 60 series The other thread http://forums.aaca.org/topic/291703-help-please-decode-this-serial-for-1939-buick/#comment-1591647 Edited April 18, 2017 by 1939_Buick (see edit history)
Ben Bruce aka First Born
If there is no data plate, perhaps a pic of the side showing back of front fender and door. A good pic of the lower part of engine, both sides will help. Ben
pont35cpe
Jerry, another way to tell what you have is to measure from the center of the rear wheel to the center of the front wheel.. A 40 series Special is 120", 60 series Century is 126", 80 series Roadmaster is 133", and 90 series Limited is 140". Tom
Barney Eaton
That intake is the small engine.....which says Special Also the 39 cars had the series name at the very front to the side chrome....up by the front of the hood.
Terry Stock
Small wiper bases and 1 grill horizontal indicates an earlier build with the short chassis.
jvelde
Jerry, I think the C in the number you show above is wrong - look on the top of the frame rail just behind the starter to get the frame number. This appears to be a Flint produced frame and the C could be a 0 or maybe a 8, but there were no letters in the frame number then. However, your number 1345_415 falls right in line for '39. The frame and engine serial number will not tell you much. For a 1939 frame number, the first digit is the plant code and the remaining seven digits are a sequential number that should fall into a specific range for 1939. For the engine number, the first digit indicates the car series and the remaining seven digits are a sequential number that should fall into a specific range for 1939. For 1939, these values are: Frame serial number: Plant Name Plant Code Seq Num Start Seq Num End Flint, MI 1 3388547 3596806 South Gate, CA 2 3395088 3592131 Linden, NJ 3 3405088 3593652 Edited April 19, 2017 by jvelde (see edit history)
