57 StarChief Ignition switch retainer pics??

3 posts in this topic

Hey All,

We are working on a 1957 Pontiac StarChief and someone has scabbed in an aftermarket ignition switch that has now failed.  We have found a NOS switch but don't know what we are missing with regards to an escutcheon and /or retainer.    The thread pitch on this NOS switch is fine thread and most of the "Chevrolet" ones we've found from local parts stores have been coarse thread.    I'm hoping that someone here will have a picture of what an original StarChief Ignition retainer should look like and if we should have an escutcheon labeling the positions.   Parts suppliers have been no help on this one so far...   If someone has these parts in good used condition please advise as well.

Thanks

-Sean

Hi Sean, just FYI the switch and ferrule interchange in 1957-58 Pontiacs.  The ferrule is part # 1938604 and is a fairly delicate chrome ring with a plastic insert for illumination, the photo of the green car shows the plastic insert as it is not completely tightened up.  The red car shows it installed tight and flush.  Note there are no markings, just the three notches for tightening the ring.  For 1957 parts your best sources are www.pontiacparts.net and Kurt Kelsey in Iowa, good luck with this one
