70sWagoneers
1937 Buick Special 40; 248ci; 3-speed Id like to go through my transmission while I have it out and check for anything obvious. First off, what trans is this? Is there a model number or some nomenclature to reference to if I look for parts? What years was it made and what other cars does it interchange with? Does anyone know of any internet sources for information and any specs I might want? Any internet forum references to rebuilds? Thanks James Cowart

jenz38
Sorry Dave, It looks like the '38 ,(S. 40 and 50 only) but isnt ,...spline and other inner thinks are differend.. "One year only" rules here. I have so my experience with lookin for my '38 spare Box 2 years ago... ;-) James, if it works correctly ,maintane it loveley and shift always carefull throu the gears and 2. and 3. Synchro , to give it at long life..., Some synchros and gears ,sometimes are available at Bobs,Cars,or old buick parts dealer.. I had the same game with my "one year only" ' 38 . Now i have 2 good used Boxes in spare ( maybe the biggest '38 tranny collection in Europe?). I has made best results with a sae 140 tranny oil . If its cold it need a bit carefull slow shifting ,but works great at hot engine between spring and fall without big leaking.
