RansomEli
I'm pretty sure the driver is Cannonball Baker and the Franklin has a '29 radiator shell & '30 hood. Looks like a hill climber. The gas tank in back looks too small for anything else. Is that a padlock on the front hood latch? Anyways, I'm sure that someone knows the full story and who the other people are. 29 franklin
It is not a 29 grille shell . Definitely earlier. Hood is 1930. Picture looks like southwest US area
mikewest
The hood front is 1928 - This was the second version of Cannonball bakers Pikes Peak Franklin race car .It is 4 wheel drive Look closely ahead of the rear wheel and see the drive for the front wheels. Its all written up by the franklin club. The first car built was conventional 2 wheel drive. Read about it in Sinclar Powells book.
mikewest
The wheels and hubs were 29 Auburn 8. Someone at the factory screwed up and in a hurry to get the car out of the shop assembled the front differential so it turned the opposite of the rear diff. When dropped the clutch it wouldn't move, just dug in....smile
RansomEli
I have the Thomas Hubbard book on Franklin. I also have Charles Wilmarth's Practical Car Restoration, which describes how he restored his 1930 Franklin. I'll have to get the Powell book. Are there any other Franklin books to get?
