Hello everyone, here is some news from the buick :)
while waiting for the parts to order, I continue with the plastic air distributor.
this piece is not found in new manufacture and they are almost all dead.
I could make another system simpler, but it would not be original.

so I start to reproduce the dispatcher identical to the original one :)

Sebastian,

There were some Riviera Owners looking for this same piece some time ago.  I told them about your reproduction.  I'm sure they'll be as impressed as the rest of us.

thank you so much RivNut ! ;)
I will work this weekend, if I have time I will work on the buick too :)

sebastienbuick Looking forward to seeing the final product! I imagine this is too labor intensive to mass produce these yourself. Maybe you can find a Chinese contractor to make them and you can sell them?

thank you NC68Riviera ;)
indeed it is work, but someone (or a company) specialized in the manufacture of metal parts could make several once they have the model.
I am not equipped like big company, I do not have all the necessary machine and suddenly I put more time to manufacture this piece

Great work. I hope the vacuum port is air tight!

To me, it looks like the paint alone would ensure a good vacuun seal

thank you very much ;) , my new dispatcher is waterproof, I tested it before painting and there is no leakage ;)

Hello, some news from the Buick :) .

Since the chassis is ready to receive the engine, I have to do some stuff on it before installing it.

Since then I'm taking care of the engine.

But before, here is the history of the engine since I have the Buick.

When I bought the Buick in 2013, as mentioned in the announcement, it was "down" because of a "heating problem".

The car was spinning but impossible to bring it back on its own, so it had to be brought back to a car door.

Once arrived, the engine compartment was in its juice and I began to paint the wheel arches, ... in black just for the eye, it's cleaner

I specify that it was photos we were made in 2013

At the same time, I was told that my heating problem could be my calorstat that block the water passage, after verification, my calorstat was already there, so it did not come from that .
Then I was told that it may have come from my radiator cap which was HS and did not let the air in too much to escape.
So I order one, and during the delivery time, I cleaned my engine with a degreaser and karcher (hence the various protection)
time to do, I also take my radiator for a good revision and it was necessary to redo all the honeycomb, and at the same time I asked them to redo the honeycomb slightly larger for a better cooling.

SAM_1401.thumb.JPG.76a0c6f3d0934139a4e5216d540257ee.JPG

Then, still waiting until my radiator arrives with its brand new cap, I repainted my engine

And at the same time that I finish painting the engine, I get my radiator redone with its cap :)

Once finished painting and install my radiator redone, I by direction the technical control, it was my first laps :).

Once arrived at the technical control, the person passes the tests at the Buick while letting it go on, and its heating, the liquid coming out of the radiator, upper hose lasts, ... obliged to turn off the engine to do the following tests.

once the control was over, the car was cold, I put coolant and I go home and get home his way.

but the heating problem was still the despite the work done.

Subsequently, I am told that it probably comes from my water pump, suddenly I disassemble the pump and we can see the bad was all

At the same time I am told that my heating problem is maybe because it lacks the ventilation nozzle. Cutting after a lot of search time, can not find the same as original and my carmaker finds me a nozzle that could adapt after a few changes

At the same time, seeing the cover of the gray air filter, I thought that the original chrome was HS and that the former owner had painted it in gray.

So after a lot of hours driving, I went to a chromium plating company after Lourde in the South ( France )

but hey it's still his original cover

Looks like another very nice job!  Did you change the timing chain gears before putting the timing chain cover back on the engine?

no I did not change them because our mechanic friend told me she was still good.
But I will surely change it now :)
thank you ;)

After changing my water pump, ... I roll a little with, it warm less but it was still not that.
the weekend is coming and there was an old car show next to my house. I go and it was a great time, the sun, finally my Buick :) and many people.
Then in the late afternoon I leave and 50 meters from home I hear "GLIN GLIN GLIN", cut I stop and I cut the engine. I open the hood and nothing to report visually, I check the engine oil, coolant, ... and nothing to report.
I restart and more noise, so I go home like that.
to not leave you in the suspense, this is the cause of the noise that was seen disassembling the engine.
a flywheel screw was unscrewed and hit several times in the flywheel until it fell to the bottom of the crankcase

Once arrived from the expo, I decided to take the Buick to my garage for me to do a compression test and he looks if he sees something wrong.
The weekend comes and I take the Buick to the garage, visually nothing seems like abnormal, it is the test of compression and all compression is good except one or there is zero, nothing  :/
Subsequently, the next week end we take care of the engine (a mechanic colleague came to help me because I did not know much yet ^^)

So start work on Saturday 13h to take out the engine ( june 2014 )

the time to disconnect everything, uncouple the box, ... it was fast night.

At the same time, I went to get at my grandpa right next, his good old Matral elevator with Dauphine engine of the year 60, this elevator has worked enormously at the time and is indestructible ;)

So with the help of the mechanic friend and several people intrigued by the bowels of a V8, here we go to start the day :)

Start of dismantling

Go hop we decelerate the passenger side (after doing the compression test, the passenger side had no problem, but against the driver side yes and we'll see why)

And now we deculase the side driver and surprise!

the penultimate piston is broken, hence the compression zero .

as we can see it is missing a piece, according to our friend there would have been a return of ignition and it would have done these damage you ask yourself surely in what state is the cylinder, well I have a lot of luck because there is no scratch or other. The cylinder has suffered no damage, it will just be enough to de-ice the cylinders before reassembly.

Following the dismantling of the engine
